MUMIAS, KAKAMEGA — Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Kakamega County has successfully conducted a two-day CAF D Licence Refresher Course, bringing together 35 CAF D Licence holders at Mumias Central from 29th to 30th August 2026.

The refresher course provided an important platform for qualified coaches to review their existing knowledge, sharpen their coaching competencies and keep pace with evolving approaches to football coaching and player development.

The programme was facilitated by FIFA/CAF Instructors Fred Serenge and Hesbon Nyabinge, who guided the coaches through key technical and practical aspects of the game.

Renewing Knowledge, Strengthening Competencies

The two-day programme focused on reinforcing the coaches’ understanding of fundamental coaching principles while encouraging continuous learning and professional development.

The participating coaches had an opportunity to engage in both theoretical discussions and practical coaching sessions, allowing them to revisit coaching methodologies and reflect on how they can improve their work with players at club, academy, school and grassroots levels.

The course forms part of FKF Kakamega’s wider commitment to strengthening the quality of coaching within the county and ensuring that qualified coaches continue to develop their knowledge and skills.

Serenge: Coaching Is a Continuous Learning Process

FIFA/CAF Instructor Fred Serenge emphasized the importance of continuous development among coaches, noting that obtaining a coaching qualification should mark the beginning of an ongoing learning journey.

“Football is constantly evolving, and coaches must evolve with it. A refresher course gives coaches an opportunity to review what they know, learn new approaches and critically assess how they are developing their players.”

Serenge further challenged the participants to translate the knowledge gained during the course into their everyday coaching environments.

“The real value of this course will be seen on the training ground. We want coaches to take these lessons back to their teams and create better learning environments for their players.”

Nyabinge: Developing Better Coaches for Better Players

Co-instructor Hesbon Nyabinge encouraged the coaches to remain committed to professional development and to put player development at the heart of their coaching.

“A coach must always be willing to learn. Our responsibility is not only to prepare teams for matches, but also to develop players technically, tactically, physically and mentally.”

Nyabinge noted that regular interaction among coaches also provides an important avenue for sharing experiences and finding practical solutions to challenges encountered in football development.

The course was supported by FKF Kakamega leadership, with the opening and closing activities attended by FKF Kakamega Chairman Jeff Mudembei, Vice Chairman Ramadhan Balala, Secretary General Rajab Wangalwa, Treasurer Fred Lugalia and CEO Simon Karanga, among other guests and football stakeholders.

Speaking during the programme, FKF Kakamega Chairman Jeff Mudembei reiterated the Federation’s commitment to investing in coaches as a key pillar of football development.

“Players cannot develop beyond the quality of the environment in which they are trained. That is why coach development remains one of our priorities. We want Kakamega to have coaches who are knowledgeable, professional and committed to developing talent.”

Vice Chairman Ramadhan Balala noted that strengthening coaching capacity would have a direct impact on grassroots football.

“We have tremendous football talent across Kakamega. Our responsibility is to ensure that this talent receives proper guidance. Having more qualified and continuously learning coaches gives our young players a better foundation.”

Secretary General Rajab Wangalwa emphasized the importance of professionalism and continued learning among coaches.

“The CAF D qualification is an important milestone, but coaches should not stop learning after certification. Continuous development is essential if we are to raise the standard of football across the county.”

FKF Kakamega Treasurer Fred Lugalia highlighted the long-term value of investing in coaching education.

“Every coach trained represents an investment in many players. When we strengthen our coaches, we strengthen the entire football ecosystem and create better opportunities for the next generation.”

Meanwhile, FKF Kakamega CEO Simon Karanga reaffirmed the Federation’s intention to create more opportunities for coaches to improve their qualifications and competencies.

“Our goal is to build a strong coaching pathway in Kakamega. We want coaches to have opportunities to learn, refresh their knowledge and progress to higher levels as they gain experience.”

35 Coaches Continue Their Development Journey

The successful completion of the refresher course saw 35 CAF D Licence holders strengthen their knowledge and reconnect with the principles and practices of modern football coaching.

The programme also provided a valuable networking platform, enabling coaches to exchange experiences and ideas while strengthening the wider coaching community in Kakamega County.

The two-day course complements FKF Kakamega’s recent Coaching Introductory Course, which saw 90 new coaches trained across three cohorts between 16th and 30th August 2026.

Together, the initiatives underline FKF Kakamega’s commitment to creating a comprehensive coaching-development pathway — from introducing new coaches to supporting existing licence holders through continued professional development.

Mudembei: Coaches Are the Foundation of Football Development

Speaking during the programme, FKF Kakamega Chairman Jeff Mudembei emphasized the importance of investing in coaches as the Federation continues to build a sustainable football development structure across the county.

“If we want to develop good players and competitive teams, then we must first develop good coaches. This course is an important investment in the people who are going to shape the next generation of footballers in Kakamega.”

Mudembei challenged the newly trained coaches to put their knowledge into practice and become ambassadors of good football development within their communities.

“We do not want this training to end with certificates. We want to see the knowledge acquired here translated into better training sessions, better player development and better football structures in our clubs, academies and schools.”

FIFA/CAF Instructor Fred Serenge, who led the training, encouraged the participants to view the introductory course as the beginning of their coaching journey rather than its conclusion.

“Coaching is a continuous learning process. What we have done here is to give these coaches a strong foundation, but they must continue learning, observing, asking questions and improving their practice every day.”

Serenge also urged the coaches to place player development at the centre of their work.

“A coach is not simply someone who wants to win matches. A good coach develops people and players. The results will come when we create the right environment for players to learn, improve and enjoy the game.”

FKF Kakamega Vice Chairman Ramadhan Balala noted that increasing the number of trained coaches would strengthen football structures across the county.

Speaking as a local leader, Murhanda Ward MCA Hon. Shilosio welcomed initiatives that bring football education and development opportunities closer to communities.

Participants engaged in a variety of practical and theoretical sessions designed to equip them with essential coaching skills, strategies, and the latest methodologies in football training. This initiative aims to foster a new generation of qualified coaches who will contribute to the growth and development of football talent in Kakamega County and beyond, ultimately strengthening the sport’s foundation at the grassroots level.

The course was facilitated by FIFA/CAF Instructor Fred Serenge, who guided participants through key principles and foundations of football coaching, equipping the new coaches with essential knowledge and skills to begin or strengthen their coaching careers.

The closing ceremony brought together FKF Kakamega leadership and football technical personnel, including FKF Kakamega Chairman Jeff Mudembei, Secretary General Rajab Wangalwa, CEO Simon Karanga, FIFA/CAF Instructor Fred Serenge, and Instructor Nyabinge, who is also the Head Coach of Green Commandos and Assistant Coach of Shabana FC.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, FIFA/CAF Instructor Fred Serenge congratulated the participants for successfully completing the five-day programme and challenged them to put the knowledge gained into practice.

“Completing this introductory course is only the beginning of your coaching journey. The real test starts when you take these lessons to the training ground and use them to develop players. Continue learning, remain disciplined and always put the development of the player first.”

28 Coaches Complete the Programme

A total of 28 participants successfully completed the five-day introductory course, which covered a wide range of essential topics designed to equip attendees with foundational skills and knowledge. Each day was packed with engaging workshops, interactive discussions, and hands-on activities that encouraged collaboration among participants. By the end of the week, attendees expressed a sense of accomplishment and newfound confidence in applying what they had learned in real-world scenarios.

The completion of the third cohort further strengthens FKF Kakamega’s commitment to developing a pool of knowledgeable and competent coaches who can support football development from the grassroots to higher levels of the game.

The closing ceremony, held on Saturday, 22 August 2026, brought together the trainees, FKF Kakamega officials, football stakeholders and the area MCA to celebrate the completion of the first cohort and the beginning of a new chapter for the 30 aspiring coaches.

The ceremony was attended by FKF Kakamega Chairman Jeff Mudembei, Vice Chairman Ramdhan Balala, Treasurer Fred Lugalia, CEO Simon Karanga, former FKF Kakamega Chairman and MCA Hon. Shilosio, as well as CAF Instructor Fred Serenge, who facilitated the five-day course.

The successful completion of the programme marks an important milestone in FKF Kakamega’s efforts to expand coach education and strengthen the technical capacity of football coaches across the county.

Mudembei: Coaching is the foundation of player development

Speaking during the closing ceremony, FKF Kakamega Chairman Jeff Mudembei congratulated the 30 trainees for completing the course and urged them to put the knowledge acquired into practice within their respective teams and communities.

“Today is a very important day for us because we are not simply closing a course; we are sending 30 new coaches into the football community. The knowledge you have gained here must now be translated into action on the pitch and used to develop players,” said Mudembei.

The chairman said FKF Kakamega would continue prioritising coach education as part of its wider football development agenda.

“If we want to develop better players and stronger teams, then we must first develop better coaches. This is why we are investing in coaching courses and creating opportunities for more coaches across Kakamega to improve their knowledge and skills,” he added.

Mudembei also encouraged the trainees to continue learning beyond the introductory course.

“This is only the beginning. Do not look at these five days as the end of your education. Continue learning, seek higher qualifications and keep improving. Football is constantly changing, and a good coach must also keep developing,” he said.

Balala urges coaches to take the game to the grassroots

FKF Kakamega Vice Chairman Ramdhan Balala congratulated the trainees and challenged them to use their new knowledge to make a difference at grassroots level.

“The real value of this course will be seen in the communities where these coaches work. We want you to go back to your clubs, schools and academies and use what you have learnt to improve the players under your care,” said Balala.

He noted that grassroots football remains an important pathway for identifying and nurturing talent.

“Kakamega has enormous football talent. Our responsibility is to make sure that this talent is guided by coaches who understand the game and know how to develop young players properly. These 30 coaches are now part of that important responsibility,” he added.

Balala also thanked the trainees for their commitment throughout the five-day programme.

“We appreciate the discipline and commitment you have shown during the course. We encourage you to maintain that same attitude as you begin your coaching journey,” he said.

Lugalia: Investing in coaches is investing in football

FKF Kakamega Treasurer Fred Lugalia said the federation would continue supporting initiatives that strengthen the technical side of football.

“When we talk about football development, we must look beyond competitions and matches. We must also invest in the people who make football happen. Coaches are at the centre of player development, and therefore investing in them is investing in the future of football,” said Lugalia.

He congratulated the first cohort and encouraged the new coaches to use their skills responsibly.

“You have been given an important foundation. Take this knowledge seriously and use it to create positive football environments for the players you will coach. Your responsibility now is to pass on what you have learnt,” he added.

Karanga: A new chapter for the 30 coaches

FKF Kakamega CEO Simon Karanga described the completion of the first cohort as an important step in the federation’s plans to build a stronger coaching structure in the county.

“We are very pleased to see the first 30 trainees complete this course. This is part of a bigger plan to increase the number of coaches with formal coaching knowledge across Kakamega,” Karanga said.

He added that the federation was keen on creating a continuous pathway for coaches to progress to higher levels.

“We do not want this to be a one-off activity. We want to create a culture where coaches understand that education and development are continuous. Today’s 30 trainees should be looking forward to the next level of their coaching journey,” he said.

Karanga further thanked the trainees, the course instructor and all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the programme.

“We appreciate CAF Instructor Fred Serenge for taking the trainees through the five days and for sharing his experience and knowledge. We also thank Murhanda Senior School for providing a conducive environment for the course,” he added.

Hon. Shilosio: A boost for football development

Former FKF Kakamega Chairman and area MCA Hon. Shilosio congratulated the trainees and welcomed the federation’s continued focus on developing football from the grassroots.

“I am delighted to be here as we celebrate these 30 new coaches. Football development is not achieved overnight. It requires investment in infrastructure, players, administrators and, most importantly, coaches who can identify and nurture talent,” said Hon. Shilosio.

He urged the new coaches to take their responsibility seriously.

“You are now going back into the community with new knowledge. Use it to give our young people better opportunities and help them understand football in a positive and disciplined environment,” he said.

Hon. Shilosio also pledged continued support for initiatives aimed at strengthening football in the area.

Serenge: The journey has just begun

CAF Instructor Fred Serenge, who facilitated the five-day programme, challenged the graduates to continue developing their coaching abilities.

“Completing this course is an achievement, but it is also the beginning of your coaching journey. The most important thing now is how you apply the knowledge you have acquired and how you continue learning,” Serenge told the trainees.

He urged the new coaches to remain focused on player development.

“Always remember that the player is at the centre of coaching. Your role is to create an environment where players can learn, improve and enjoy the game. Keep asking questions, keep learning and keep improving,” he said.

The New Coaches in Town

Second cohort set for Mumias

Following the successful conclusion of the first cohort, FKF Kakamega will immediately continue with the next phase of its coach education programme.

The second lot of 30 trainees will undertake the Coaching Introductory Course at Mumias Central Primary School, with the programme scheduled to begin on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.

The second cohort forms part of FKF Kakamega’s broader plan to expand access to coaching education and increase the number of trained coaches serving clubs, schools, academies and grassroots football programmes across the county.

With the first 30 coaches now completing their training and another 30 set to begin their course in Mumias, FKF Kakamega is steadily building a stronger technical foundation for the future of football in the county.

The federation’s leadership reaffirmed its commitment to making coach development a continuous priority, while encouraging the new graduates to become ambassadors of quality coaching within their communities.

Thirty coaches have completed the first step. Thirty more will begin theirs on Tuesday. The journey towards a stronger coaching culture in Kakamega continues.

The Safaricom Chapa Dimba Season 5 Western Region Finals delivered an exciting weekend of youth football as the best boys’ and girls’ teams from Western Kenya battled for regional honours and a place at the national finals.

The tournament brought together representatives from Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia, with the competition showcasing some of the region’s most promising young footballers.

At the conclusion of the finals, Vihiga Cranes were crowned boys’ champions, while Lugari Progressive emerged victorious in the girls’ competition.

Vihiga Cranes Claim Boys’ Crown

Vihiga Cranes secured the Western Region boys’ title after a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Musokoto Secondary School in the final.

The decisive moment came in the second half when Tonny Omondi rose to head home from a Luke Ramsey corner, giving Vihiga Cranes the lead.

Musokoto pushed for an equaliser but the Vihiga side held firm to secure the regional championship and qualification to the national finals.

KAKAMEGA, 18 August 2026 — Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Kakamega has officially launched a five-day Coaching Introductory Course at Murhanda Senior School, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening coach education and developing football from the grassroots across the county.

The course, which commenced on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, brings together coaches and football enthusiasts seeking to acquire foundational coaching knowledge and improve their understanding of modern football training methods.

The launch was attended by FKF Kakamega Chairman Jeff Mudembei, Vice Chairman Ramdhan Balala, Treasurer Fred Lugalia, CEO Simon Karanga, and former FKF Kakamega Chairman/ current Murhanda MCA Hon. Elphas Shilosio. The course is being facilitated by CAF Instructor Fred Serenge, who will take participants through the five-day programme.

Speaking during the launch, FKF Kakamega Chairman Jeff Mudembei emphasised the importance of investing in coaches as part of the federation’s broader efforts to improve the quality of football in the county.

“The development of football begins with the development of our coaches. When we equip coaches with the right knowledge and skills, we create a strong foundation for the development of our players and our teams,” said Mudembei.

He added that FKF Kakamega was committed to creating more opportunities for coaches to access quality training and professional development.

“We want to see more coaches from Kakamega gaining recognised coaching qualifications and applying modern methods in their work. This course is an important beginning, and we encourage our coaches to take full advantage of the opportunity,” he added.

CAF Instructor Fred Serenge, who is leading the five-day course, highlighted the importance of continuous learning among coaches, noting that football is constantly evolving and coaches must remain ready to adapt.

“Coaching is a continuous learning process. The game is changing every day, and coaches must also continue developing their knowledge, understanding and practical skills. This course provides an important foundation for coaches who want to grow in the profession,” Serenge said.

Serenge further encouraged the participants to actively engage throughout the programme and to view the course as the beginning of a longer coaching journey.

“I encourage all the participants to ask questions, participate fully and make use of every session. What we are doing here is not only about completing a five-day course; it is about building coaches who can make a meaningful difference in the development of players,” he said.

FKF Kakamega CEO Simon Karanga said the federation recognises coach education as one of the key areas that must be strengthened if the county is to continue producing competitive teams and talented players.

“You cannot develop players beyond the level of the people coaching them. That is why coach education is very important to us. We want to build capacity among our coaches so that they can provide better training environments for our young players,” said Karanga.

He noted that the course provides an opportunity to establish a stronger coaching culture within Kakamega.

“Our ambition is to see coaches who understand the game, understand player development and can transfer that knowledge effectively to the players. This is one of the steps towards achieving that objective,” Karanga added.

Former FKF Kakamega Chairman and Murhanda Ward MCA Hon. Shilosio also welcomed the initiative, describing investment in football education as essential to the long-term development of the sport.

“Football has great potential to transform the lives of our young people, but that potential can only be realised when we invest in the people who guide and develop our players. Supporting coaches is therefore an investment in the future of football in Kakamega,” Hon. Shilosio said.

With neither side able to break the deadlock, the championship was decided from the penalty spot.

Lugari Progressive held their nerve to win the shootout 3–0, successfully defending their county crown and extending their remarkable run to five consecutive Chapa Dimba Kakamega County titles.

The spotlight was firmly on goalkeeper Shamsi Pachanga, who produced a sensational performance between the posts, saving two penalties to inspire her team to victory.

Safaricom Chapa Dimba Season 5 — Nurturing Talents , Changing Communities.

KAKAMEGA, Kenya – June 2026 – Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Kakamega Branch has officially released the fixtures for the highly anticipated Safaricom Chapa Dimba Season 5 Boys Competition, setting the stage for one of the largest grassroots football tournaments in the county.

The competition, scheduled to kick off on 27th June 2026 and continue through 28th June 2026, will bring together hundreds of talented young footballers representing clubs, academies, schools, and community teams from all twelve sub-counties of Kakamega County.

Safaricom Chapa Dimba remains Kenya’s premier youth football development tournament, providing a platform for emerging talent to showcase their abilities while competing for opportunities that include elite training camps, national exposure, and pathways into professional football.

FKF Kakamega continues to lead the country in youth football participation, and the release of the fixtures signals the beginning of what promises to be an exciting and competitive county-wide championship.

FKF Kakamega Branch has emerged as the county with the highest number of registered teams in the country for the upcoming Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournament, reaffirming its position as one of Kenya’s leading football talent hubs.

With an impressive 210 registered teams comprising 147 boys’ teams and 63 girls’ teams, Kakamega has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to youth football development and grassroots talent identification. The massive turnout highlights the growing popularity of the competition and the immense football potential within the county.

What is Safaricom Chapa Dimba?

Safaricom Chapa Dimba is Kenya’s premier youth football tournament aimed at identifying, nurturing, and developing young football talent across the country. The competition provides aspiring footballers with a platform to showcase their abilities while creating pathways to professional football opportunities.

Over the years, Chapa Dimba has transformed the lives of many young players by offering exposure, mentorship, life skills training, and opportunities to advance their football careers both locally and internationally.

On Wednesday 17th June 2026 the FKF Kakamega Branch reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots football development by gracing the opening ceremony of the 2026 Kakamega County Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Football Championships held from 17th to 20th June 2026 in Kakamega Central.

The FKF Kakamega delegation was led by Branch Chairman Jeff Mudembei, accompanied by other branch officials and stakeholders. During the opening ceremony, the leaders encouraged the young footballers to remain disciplined, work hard in both academics and sports, and pursue their dreams with determination.

As part of its ongoing efforts to nurture and develop football talent across the county, FKF Kakamega donated a total of 56 footballs to the participating schools. Each boys’ and girls’ school that qualified for the county championships received two footballs from the branch to support training and competition activities.

Speaking during the event, Chairman Jeff Mudembei emphasized the importance of investing in school football as a foundation for the future of the game.

“School football remains one of the strongest pathways for talent identification and development. FKF Kakamega is committed to supporting these young players and providing opportunities that will help them grow into future stars of Kenyan football,” said Mudembei.

“The KSSSA Championships provide an excellent platform for young players to showcase their abilities and take the first steps towards achieving their football dreams. As FKF Kakamega, we are proud to support school football because it is where many of our future stars are discovered and developed. We encourage all participants to remain disciplined, work hard, and enjoy the competition,” said FKF Kakamega Youth Representative Joseph Kubati.

MUMIAS, KAKAMEGA COUNTY – June 1, 2026

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Kakamega Branch has taken another significant step towards improving the quality of football officiating in the county after successfully conducting a two-day Mid-Season Physical Endurance Test (PET) for referees and match commissioners at the Mumias Sports Complex on May 31 and June 1, 2026.

The exercise brought together more than 100 registered referees and match commissioners from across the county, who underwent a series of medical assessments, agility drills, and physical fitness tests aimed at evaluating their readiness to officiate matches at various levels of competition, including FIFA, Kenya Premier League (KPL), National Super League (NSL), Division One, and Division Two.

The PET was led by Western Region National Executive Committee (NEC) Member Mr. Caleb Amwayi, who served as the chief instructor. Drawing from his vast experience in football officiating and administration, Mr. Amwayi guided participants through intensive training sessions designed to sharpen their understanding of the Laws of the Game while enhancing their physical preparedness.

Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Amwayi emphasized the importance of maintaining high officiating standards.

“Physical fitness is a key requirement for every match official. This PET ensures that our referees and match commissioners remain fit, competent, and ready to handle football matches at all levels while upholding the integrity of the game.”

The training combined practical demonstrations, fitness assessments, and interactive discussions, providing participants with valuable insights and skills necessary to manage matches effectively and confidently.

FKF Kakamega Branch Chairman Jeff Mudembei lauded the commitment shown by the officials and reaffirmed the branch’s dedication to strengthening football structures within the county.

“Our goal is to continuously improve the standards of football in Kakamega. Well-trained and physically fit match officials are essential for fair competition and the overall growth of the game. We will continue investing in capacity-building programmes that empower our referees and match commissioners.”

The event was attended by several FKF Kakamega Branch leaders, including Vice Chairman Ramadhan Balala, Secretary General Rajab Wangalwa, Youth Representative Joseph Kubati, Treasurer Fred Lugalia, and FKF Kakamega CEO Simon Karanga.

Welcoming participants, Chairman Jeff Mudembei thanked clubs for their continued commitment to football development and urged all stakeholders to work together for the growth of the game.

“The success of our competitions depends on discipline, cooperation, and adherence to regulations. We have made significant progress during the first leg, but there is still room for improvement. Our goal is to ensure that every club operates in a professional environment that promotes fair competition and football development,” said Mudembei.

Review of the First Leg

The meeting reviewed the First Leg of the FKF Kakamega County League, noting improvements in match attendance, venue preparation, and compliance with competition regulations. Participants also discussed challenges relating to officiating consistency, delayed kick-offs in some fixtures, and disciplinary concerns involving players and team officials.

Vice Chairman Ramadhan Balala emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards across all competitions.

“Every stakeholder has a role to play in protecting the integrity of our competitions. Clubs, referees, players, and supporters must work together to create a positive football environment that reflects the values of FKF,” said Balala.

Preparations for the Second Leg

Discussions then shifted to preparations for the Second Leg, which is scheduled to run from 6th June to 30th August 2026. Clubs were urged to strengthen communication, comply with registration requirements, and ensure proper match-day organization.

Secretary General Rajab Wangalwa stressed the need for timely communication and administrative compliance.

“We want clubs to remain proactive in matters of registration, player eligibility, and communication. Compliance with regulations is not optional; it is essential for the credibility and smooth running of our competitions,” Wangalwa noted.

Key Resolutions

Several important resolutions were adopted during the meeting, including:

• Organization of a comprehensive referees’ briefing before the commencement of the Second Leg.
• Mandatory match checks by two officials per team, with team captains and managers present.
• Continued enforcement of player eligibility and registration requirements.
• Confirmation that the transfer window remains open until 5th June 2026.
• Scheduling of the County Mini League for 19th and 20th September 2026.
• Requirement for all clubs to comply with registration and administrative obligations by 14th June 2026.
• Full settlement of outstanding fees by mid-July 2026.

Referees Secretary Mr. Majani welcomed the planned referees’ briefing and called for professionalism among match officials.

“Consistency, neutrality, and professionalism are critical for effective match officiating. The upcoming briefing will help ensure that referees apply the Laws of the Game uniformly while maintaining the highest standards of conduct,” he said.

Treasurer Fred Lugalia reminded clubs of the importance of meeting financial obligations within the stipulated timelines.

“Financial compliance enables the branch to effectively manage competitions and deliver services to clubs. We encourage all teams to meet the deadlines that have been agreed upon,” Lugalia stated.

Football Development Agenda

One of the major outcomes of the meeting was a unanimous resolution to formally engage the Kakamega County Government on football development matters.

The meeting resolved that FKF Kakamega County Branch and affiliated clubs should seek an audience with the Governor of Kakamega County to discuss partnerships, infrastructure development, and support programs for football.

Youth Representative Joseph Kubati underscored the importance of investing in youth football.

“Kakamega has consistently produced some of the finest football talent in Kenya. Establishing a Youth Football Development Centre in the county would provide a structured pathway for nurturing young players and securing the future of football in the Western Region,” said Kubati.

Stakeholders also agreed to formally petition the FKF National Office to establish a Youth Football Development Centre in Kakamega County, citing the county’s rich football heritage and strategic position within the Western Region.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from clubs and FKF officials to uphold discipline, professionalism, and unity as the season enters its crucial second phase.

Closing the session, Chairman Jeff Mudembei challenged clubs to remain focused on development and fair competition.

“Football is growing in Kakamega because of the dedication of our clubs and stakeholders. Let us continue working together to build stronger competitions, develop our young talent, and create more opportunities for our players,” he said.

The Football Kenya Federation Kakamega County Branch has officially announced the opening and closing dates for the 2025/2026 FKF Kakamega County League Mid-Season Transfer Window, giving clubs an opportunity to strengthen their squads ahead of the second phase of the season.

According to the official communication released by FKF Kakamega County Branch on 11th May 2026, the transfer window will officially open on 21st May 2026 at 1800hrs and close on 5th June 2026 at midnight. Clubs participating in the county league have been urged to ensure that all player transfers, registrations, and related documentation are completed within the stipulated period in line with FKF rules and regulations governing player transfers and registrations.

FKF Kakamega further emphasized that only eligible and properly cleared players will be registered during the exercise. Clubs have also been advised to ensure all disciplinary and registration requirements are fully adhered to in order to avoid inconveniences.

The branch reiterated that there shall be strictly no exceptions, extensions, or late registrations after the transfer window closes on 5th June 2026 at midnight. The directive aims to enhance proper planning, transparency, and smooth management of competitions within the county league structures.

The transfer period is expected to trigger increased activity among clubs as teams seek to reinforce their squads for the remainder of the 2025/2026 campaign. Similar mid-season registration exercises have always been conducted across FKF competitions nationwide to allow clubs to adjust their squads based on performance and strategic needs.
