FKF Kakamega Holds Match Officials PET Training At Tande Primary School

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Kakamega is taking a positive stride in improving the quality of football played in the county as they conducted a two-day Physical Endurance Tests (PET) training at Tande Primary School for their match officials on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th 2025.

The over 100 referees and match commissioners (MC) were taken through medical, agility drills as well as physical tests to ascertain their ability to officiate the FIFA (International Federation of Association Football), Kenya Premier League (KPL), National Super League (NSL), Division one and league Two assignments.

FKF Kakamega branch conducted Physical Endurance Test (PET) for two days. Physical training was conducted on Friday in the morning then integrated training in the evening. On Saturday morning active recovery for referees then match commissioners in the evening.

The exercise was headed by Western region NEC member Mr. Caleb Amwayi as the main instructor, who brought a wealth of experience to the training session. Under his guidance, participants engaged in a comprehensive curriculum designed to enhance their expertise and understanding of the rules of the game. The training will help to equip match officiators with the necessary skills to handle games more effectively, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges they may face on the field. Through practical demonstrations and interactive discussions, the referees will gain valuable insights that will enable them to officiate matches with greater confidence and authority.

Other notable leaders present were FKF Kakamega branch Chairman Jeff Mudembei, who has been instrumental in promoting local football initiatives, Secretary General Rajab Wangalwa, known for his commitment to enhancing the operations of the federation, Youth Rep Jeseph Kubati, representing the vibrant youth community eager to make their mark in the sport, and Women Rep Emily Khasiro, a passionate advocate for women’s participation in football. The FKF Kakamega Treasurer Fred Lugalia was also in attendance, along with referees committee heads among others, highlighting the collaborative effort in the development of the sport. “The PET, was used for ensuring a well-rounded and experienced team to oversee the matches and maintain the integrity of the game. This selection reflects the commitment to high standards in officiating, which is crucial for the growth and credibility of football in the region.”

The PET training, which was officially opened by FKF Western region NEC member Mr. Caleb Amwayi, emphasized the critical importance of this initiative for the referees and MCs involved in the game. Mr. Amwayi noted that the training was crucial as it not only ensures that officials adhere strictly to football rules and FIFA standards but also enhances their understanding of the game’s intricacies. By participating in this training, officials are better equipped to make informed decisions during matches, thereby fostering a fair and competitive environment.
