During the month of June, the FKF Kakamega officially launched youth leagues across all age categories, a significant initiative aimed at nurturing young talents in the county. This program not only seeks to cultivate the skills and abilities of aspiring footballers but also provides a platform for healthy competition and team camaraderie among the youth. With dedicated coaches and support staff, the leagues are designed to focus on skill development, discipline, and sportsmanship, ensuring that participants receive a well-rounded experience. Despite having a busy schooling schedule, the schools’ half-term and vacation days will speed up the leagues, according to the FKF Kakamega branch Chairman Mr Jeff Mudembei. While launching the leagues, the chairman reiterated that free time will be utilized like the half-term period to ensure all categories of youth leagues have been played across the county daily. “This will help us beat the FIFA calendar, even with the youths in schools; for sure, Kakamega is the home of football talents from what we’re seeing in our U13 youth leagues,” the chairman stated. He further emphasized the importance of these leagues in fostering not only talent but also discipline and teamwork among the young players. Such initiatives aim to create a competitive environment that nurtures these budding athletes, encouraging them to excel in their respective teams. Mr Jeff Mudembei also highlighted the need for additional support from local communities to sustain these programs, ensuring that young footballers have the resources they require to succeed on and off the pitch.
In another development, the FKF Kakamega branch has been diligently offering soccer academies and youth teams in Kakamega County, providing young players with essential resources such as soccer balls, training kits, and coaching staff to nurture their skills. Speaking at the A Step Academy, the Chairman emphasized the federation’s unwavering commitment to identifying and developing young talents who show promise in the sport. He highlighted that these initiatives aim not only to enhance the players’ technical abilities but also to instill values such as teamwork and discipline in them. Furthermore, the federation plans to organize regular competitions and workshops to ensure that these young athletes gain valuable experience and exposure, thereby paving their way for future opportunities in soccer.
A step academy received 10 balls from the FKF Kakamega, which marks the beginning of a promising partnership aimed at nurturing football talent in the region. The federation has made a solid commitment to support A step in its mission to develop and mentor over 300 young talents, ranging from under 10, 13, 15, and 17.
