ZONE A
In the men’s league zone A, which comprises of 11 competitive teams from Likuyani Sub-County, Warriors FC has taken a commanding lead atop the table with an impressive 40 points accrued after 15 hard-fought matches. Their consistency and relentless pursuit of victory have established them as a formidable team this season. Hot on their heels is Mbururu Stars FC, currently sitting in second place with 38 points, having played one additional match and showcasing their potential as they strive to close the gap. Following closely is Matunda Youth, who sits in third position with a solid 34 points, providing a strong challenge to the teams above them. On Saturday, 19th April 2025, Mbururu FC hosted Melody United at Mbururu Primary, and the match turned into a spectacular display of football, resulting in a decisive 5-0 thrashing for the home team. Mbururu’s K. Calistus shone brightly during the match, netting a brace; he opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a stunning strike, showcasing his incredible skill and composure in front of goal. Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Kakamega is taking a positive stride in improving the quality of football played in the county as they conducted a two-day Physical Endurance Tests (PET) training at Tande Primary School for their match officials on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th 2025.
The over 100 referees and match commissioners (MC) were taken through medical, agility drills as well as physical tests to ascertain their ability to officiate the FIFA (International Federation of Association Football), Kenya Premier League (KPL), National Super League (NSL), Division one and league Two assignments.
FKF Kakamega branch conducted Physical Endurance Test (PET) for two days. Physical training was conducted on Friday in the morning then integrated training in the evening. On Saturday morning active recovery for referees then match commissioners in the evening.

The exercise was headed by Western region NEC member Mr. Caleb Amwayi as the main instructor, who brought a wealth of experience to the training session. Under his guidance, participants engaged in a comprehensive curriculum designed to enhance their expertise and understanding of the rules of the game. The training will help to equip match officiators with the necessary skills to handle games more effectively, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges they may face on the field. Through practical demonstrations and interactive discussions, the referees will gain valuable insights that will enable them to officiate matches with greater confidence and authority.

This selection reflects the commitment to high standards in officiating, which is crucial for the growth and credibility of football in the region.”

The Western region closing ceremony at Mumias Central Primary, which followed the Div 2 football scheduled mandatory Physical Endurance Tests (PETs) for match officials officiating in the FKF leagues, was a vibrant event that brought together numerous Div 2 Centre referees and Assistant referees from the western football community. Notable attendees included FKF NEC member for the western region, Mr. Caleb Amwayi, who emphasized the importance of grassroots football development in fostering talent. FKF Kakamega County Chairman Mr. Jeff Mudembei expressed his gratitude to all participants and stakeholders for their unwavering dedication throughout the pet, while FKF Bungoma County Chairman Mr. Denis Simiyu highlighted the successes of the pet and the spirit of sportsmanship displayed during the pet. News just in from FKF Kakamega media is that today, 24th January 2024, FKF President Hussein Mohammed and his Vice President Macdonald Mariga are attending the solemn funeral of Mama Jane Ambale Opindi, a beloved community figure who passed on 11th January 2025. The funeral service is taking place at Ebuyonga Village, located in the Kisa sub-location of Kakamega County, where family, friends, and numerous well-wishers have gathered to pay their respects. Mama Jane was known for her unwavering support of local initiatives and her deep commitment to fostering peace and love within the community. Her legacy of kindness and leadership will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
